Merida, Yucatan

Merida, better known as the white capital of Yucatan, was founded on the remains of a former Mayan settlement known as Ichcaanziho, which in Maya means five hills, and its current name was given to it by the Spanish conquerors. This city, adorned with beautiful architecture, invites you to discover the magic of the past along with the modernity of the present by walking through its streets and past architecturally outstanding buildings that still conserve local building materials, giving them that whitish hue from where the nickname the White City comes. The most outstanding of the architectural beauties in the city are the Government Palace, the Péon Contreras Theater, the Cathedral of San Ildefonso, the Casa Montejo and of course the Paseo Montejo.

Without a doubt Merida has a wide range of culture to please us, with folklore, traditional dances, music, cuisine, traditional fiestas and its famous “bombas”, rhyming sayings that are always pleasing to the ears of those who hear them. For all these reasons and thanks to the friendly nature of its people, this city was named “City of Peace”, a unique place that brings joy to the hearts of those who visit it.
